Production - Melting, Moulding, and Quality Control

ProfileMolten Metallurgy Inc. (M.M.I.) started operations in 1986 to produce  specialty alloyed castings for applications requiring heat-resistance,  corrosion-resistance and wear-resistance.  Since its inception, M.M.I. has  been dedicated to the production of top quality, high performance castings.   When resistance is called for, M.M.I. is equal to the challenge.

 

Located in scenic Paris, Ontario, this Canadian owned and operated company is centrally located for easy access via HWY 403 and HWY 401.  Situated on 6 acres of land, the foundry has 20,000 square feet of production space to meet each individual job.

Melting Capabilities

Our melting equipment consists of 5 electric induction furnaces: 

  • Two – 300 lbs furnaces
  • Two – 500 lbs furnaces. 
  • One – 1000 lbs furnace. 

This series of small furnaces provides us amazing flexibility and superior control allowing us to produce the full spectrum of alloys without cross-contamination, giving us the versatility to produce small runs, and custom jobs.  With casting sizes from 1 to approximately 800 pounds and production runs from one-offs to 10,000 plus, our versatility and quality are our trademarks.

Moulding
Pattern

Production is achieved using cope and drag tooling, while prototyping and small runs can be produced using loose pieces. 

 

Moulding is done using a no-bake air set ester cured phenolic reclaimed sand system.  MMI takes great pride in reclaiming over 75% of our sand and incorporating exhaust capture technology in our continuing effort to minimize our environmental impact.  Our continual goal is to reach 100% reclaimed sand.

Internal Quality Control

MMI is proud to be an ISO 9001-2008 Certified Company performing several internal and outside audits a year.  Every heat is sampled and tested for chemical analysis using Mass Spectrometry with records and heat numbers being kept on file for complete traceability. 

 

Related to this is Carbon Determination also performed on every heat, with records being kept in house.  Complete Chemical Certification is available free of charge.

 

Two Brinell Hardness testers round out our in house testing equipment, giving us a range of equipment to analyze and maximize the quality you receive.
